The automobile ro-on/ro-off terminal at the Nangang Terminal Phase II in Shanghai's Lin-gang Special Area witnessed the trial berthing of the first domestic trade ro-ro vessel on Aug 8 since its completion.

The successful trial, under the protection of the Yangshan Port Maritime Safety Administration, marks a major step toward the opening of Phase II, a key upgrade to the Nangang Terminal, a regional maritime transportation hub.

Designed with a length of 740 meters, Nangang Terminal Phase II can accommodate a 70,000-metric-ton ro-ro ship and a 50,000-ton multi-purpose vessel at the same time. The 968-meter two-way four-lane approach bridge works with the one at the terminal's Phase I, boosting Yangshan Port's cargo transfer efficiency.

Constructed amid dense berths, complex navigation, and harsh weather conditions, the Phase II project faced great challenges. To ensure smooth progress, the Yangshan Maritime Safety Administration provided pre-construction safety plans, streamlined approvals via "internet + maritime services", and conducted thorough inspections on the construction vessels.

Scheduled to open this year, Nangang Terminal Phase II is expected to trigger a surge in domestic and international shipping of Lin-gang-made commercial vehicles and construction machinery products.

Yangshan Maritime Safety Administration will further optimize services and simplify port clearance procedures to enhance logistics efficiency, solidifying Shanghai Port's role as a global hub for ro-ro shipping.
