Tesla's Shanghai Gigafactory, located in Lin-gang Special Area, reached a major milestone on Dec 8, rolling out its 4-millionth vehicle.

Tesla's rapid expansion in Lin-gang highlights the area's supportive business environment. The Shanghai Gigafactory broke ground in Lin-gang in January 2019 and began production by the end of the year. Construction started on its Shanghai Megafactory in Lin-gang in May last year, which produced its first product just nine months later.

As Tesla's global export hub, the Shanghai Gigafactory now accounts for nearly half of Tesla's global electric vehicle deliveries. The Shanghai-manufactured vehicles meet many different safety standards across international markets and can withstand varying climate conditions and road environments.

Built to Tesla's own design standards, the factory integrates stamping, welding, painting, and final assembly within one space and can assemble a complete vehicle every 30 seconds, setting an industry benchmark for production speed.

The factory has achieved 95 percent localization of its supply chain and has fostered a complete new energy vehicle industry ecosystem across the Yangtze River Delta region, significantly reducing logistics costs.
