Yangshan Deep-Water Port in Shanghai's Lin-gang Special Area handled over 28.7 million twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) in 2025, marking a 10.38 percent year-on-year increase. It topped the Container Port Performance Index (CPPI) for three consecutive years: 2022, 2023, and 2024.

The port saw 9,181 international mainline container vessel calls in 2025, recording a 3.2 percent increase over the previous year, while feeder services grew 8.7 percent to 17,942 calls.

To further improve navigational efficiency, the Yangshan Maritime Safety Administration has implemented innovative measures such as two-way navigation and dual-window departure procedures, keeping the port's overall berth utilization rate at around 84 percent.

Faced with limited shoreline resources, triple-berth operations across all tidal periods have been introduced, creating an additional handling capacity of about 1.08 million TEUs and increasing shoreline utilization by 5 percent.

To minimize disruptions from severe weather such as strong winds and heavy fog, the maritime authority has partnered with meteorological departments to establish a precision forecasting system, effectively addressing challenges vessels face in seeking shelter and securing berths amid adverse conditions.

By optimizing safety supervision and implementing dual-vessel bunkering operations, Yangshan Port has rapidly expanded its bunkering of clean fuels, with liquefied natural gas (LNG) volumes surpassing 700,000 cubic meters in 2025 and methanol bunkering seeing notable growth.

The construction of the northern area of Xiaoyangshan Island is progressing as planned, with two western berths expected to begin operations by the end of 2026, supporting Yangshan Port's future growth.
