China's first low-carbon virtual power plant was implemented in Lin-gang Special Area, Shanghai, on June 6.

This innovative system aggregates and optimizes distributed energy resources such as solar photovoltaic, wind power, and energy storage systems. It does this by utilizing an integrated network of software systems as well as advanced information and communication technologies.

A representative from the Shanghai branch of State Grid Corp of China explained that this implementation involves precise responses aimed at maximizing the utilization of locally-produced clean energy sources. By coordinating with stakeholders, the system adjusts energy consumption during periods of low new energy output and charges energy storage devices when there is high new energy generation.

By dynamically monitoring carbon emission factors in electricity production, users are guided to reduce high-carbon electricity usage during low clean energy generation periods and increase the use of low-carbon electricity during peak clean energy generation times. This initiative, presented as the latest energy-saving and carbon reduction strategy by the Shanghai branch of State Grid Corp of China and other collaborating entities, promotes green, low-carbon, and high-quality development in the region.
