The Ministry of Commerce of China, together with eight other national departments, unveiled a package of measures to boost services exports on Sept 24.

The measures include the establishment of international data centers and cloud computing centers in the pilot free trade zones, Hainan Free Trade Port and the national comprehensive demonstration zones for expanding opening-up in the service industry. The aim is to enhance the country's competitiveness in trade in services.

Eligible areas, such as the Lin-gang Special Area in Shanghai and the Hainan Free Trade Port, will be able to pioneer developing international data services, providing secure and compliant data processing and storage services to global businesses.

The initiative aims to meet the development needs of new business formats and models, such as digital trade and cross-border data flows, and to strengthen China's status as a hub in the global data industry chain through improving infrastructure and regulatory frameworks.
